An Explanation Of Pilates
In the 1920’s Joseph Pilates founded a form of exercise he named Contrology, now commonly known as Pilates.
The focus of this method is to re-balance the biomechanical structural within the body to avoid wear and tear of the joints by maintaining good posture, strength and flexibility. This is achieved through use of controlled and precise movements in order to re-align the body’s posture.
Specific muscle groups are targeted and strengthened to improve the body’s core stability while others are lengthened and released. Joseph Pilates’ message was about harmony and he believed that the philosophy behind good health was a lifestyle balance - very much a mind-body technique.
Pilates is ideal for:
- use in rehabilitation, as an effective aid in recovery from injuryexercise during and after pregnancy as well pre- and post- surgery.
- As it is focus-based, you are able to work certain parts of the body while leaving others alone or quiet, if need be
